An E-Passport is a biometric chip-based passport.

2. Key Features of Pakistan E-Passport 2026:
- 10-Year Validity Option - Regular passport was 5 years. Now you can get 10 years too
- Biometric Chip - No more manual data entry at airports
- E-Gates Access - Use automated gates in UAE Saudi Turkey and other countries
- Better Security - Very hard to fake. Reduces fraud
- Same Fee Structure - Normal and urgent fees are almost the same as old passport
3. How to Apply for E-Passport in Pakistan
You can apply from any DGIP Regional Passport Office or online.
Documents Required:
1. Original CNIC 1 copy
2. Old Passport if renewing
3. 4x6 cm photos with white background
4. B-Form for minors
5. Birth Certificate for kids under 18
Steps:
1. Go to passport office or apply online at passport.gov.pk
2. Biometric Photo will be taken on the spot
3. Normal: 10 working days. Urgent: 2-3 working days
4. E-Passport Fee in 2026:
Type 5 Years 10 Years
Normal - 36 Pages Rs 4500 Rs 6700
Urgent - 36 Pages Rs 7500 Rs 11200
Normal - 100 Pages Rs 8200 Rs 12400
Note: Fees can vary slightly. Check at the office before applying.
5. Do I NEED to switch right now
No. Your old machine-readable passport is still valid till expiry.
But if you’re applying for a new passport or renewal in 2026 you will automatically get the E-Passport.
